Chapter III: Evil’s Reawakening

It was a foggy Monday morning in Tokyo, a normal morning filled with dreads of school, hopes of fun, and dreams of love. However, this misty morning would prove fateful for the Earth...and for a girl named Onyx...

Onyx started her first journey to school via downtown, the long route. She just wanted to get a feel for the place, as she figured she would be staying there for awhile. The images she had seen of Queen Serenity and Beryl’s Negaverse kept pounding at her thought, and she was soon depressed from this disruption. She walked with her head down, looking up only to mark points of interest.

However, while strolling, she heard loud voices, voices in anger. She looked up, and to her surprise, she saw a screaming woman and a yelling man, both of their faces red, arguing like there was no tomorrow. How can people be this way? she thought. Nothing could be worth the trouble...

Onyx kept her head up now, trying to understand these people’s ways of thinking. Passing an electronics store, she paused to see a wall of TV’s lined up against the window, showing the news. She listened --

"Meanwhile, in the Middle East, the war is looming between the two countries we have been reporting on. The presence of nuclear weapons hightens the threat..."

My god! Why would anyone do that?

Onyx started to rush now, wanting to get away from the pain she saw. She began to run, and as she ran, she saw dirty streets, few trees, and even a few homeless people. How dare they? There like...like...those Negaverse people I saw! Trying to get her mind off things, she flew over to her new school, Crossroads Junior High. Serena spotted her and waved wildly.

"Hey, Onyx! Over here!" she yelled, drawing attention. Everyone saw that it was only Serena screaming, and they looked away.

"Hey Serena. What’s going on?" she asked.

"Oh nothing. Just another boring day at school."

Molly stepped up to the two. "Yeah, school is such a pain. I wish I could get out of it."

Serena laughed. "You said it, Molly!"

These people are vicious! They don’t even care about learning...

A ringing sound was heard. "Oh my god, that’s the bell! We gotta go!" Serena squealed. "Come on!" Pulling her across the room, they sat down in their seats, and the school day began.

When the last bell (finally) rang...

Serena and Molly yelled. "Yes! It’s over! Now we can go to the mall and the arcade!" However, Onyx wasn’t interested in this discussion as she noticed a group of boys making fun of another girl...AMY!

"What are they doing!" she yelled, surprising Serena.

"Oh, they always do that. I feel bad, but it brings me down, you know? Come on, let’s go."

That’s it! I can’t take this anymore! No one here cares about anything! I must...I must...

"Hey, guys," she said, trying to sound cool, "sorry, but I really gotta go. You know, homework?"

Molly laughed. "Homework? all right, but I don’t know why you waste time doing it. Oh, well. See ya!"

As they waved her good-bye, she started running off, pushing many people in her way. One of the people stopped her and said, "Hey, what do you think you’re doing?"

She stopped to look at him. Tall, black hair, nice jawline, studious. Where do I know him from? Who is he? I see his name on one of his papers...Darien. Hmm...

Deep in thought, Darien cut her off. "I said, what do you think you’re --"

"Sorry, sorry, I’m just in a rush. That’s all."

"Well, don’t do it again!" Gosh, I just pushed him a little. These people are so inconsiderate! I gotta leave... She resumed her running, thinking about the evil of everyone she had seen. She knew that what she was thinking must be right, she just knew it. Finally, after all of those confrontations, she made it home at last.

Rushing in, she grabbed the onyx necklace that had been feared a short while ago. However, Onyx knew that her destiny was within its black allure. She placed it on her neck, calling out, "I know I am connected to this Negaverse, somehow. Queen Beryl, I am not afraid. Show yourself!"

Suddenly, a vision, a hologram of sorts, appeared, projected from the onyx, of a woman with red hair and a sinister glare...Queen Beryl. --- I am here. So, you’re not afraid?

No, Queen, I am not.

--- In that case, I can finally reveal the past to you, your forgotten past. When you were little, you were abandoned by your true mother, and was turned over to other parents, who soon died. You were alone until you were three...and then I found you, took you in. You were powerful. We were unstoppable, me and you, the Black Daughter. Do you remember, child?

Memories...memories are coming back to me! I remember the pain, the anger I felt. I feel the same now. People must pay for the evils they have caused.

--- Yes, YES!

I will become that evil. I will regain my power. I am...the Black Daughter!

--- Yes, child, you are. You are. And together, we will release the NegaForce, and the Earth will be ours!

All ours? Then we can clear up these wicked humans’ minds.

--- "Clear them up". Yes, we can.

Then we are together again!...

And as soon as she said that, a dark portal opened, and Beryl said, This is the gateway to the Negaverse. If you are truly evil, you will step through it.

And she did indeed step through...and was introduced to evil. Beryl’s evil. Her evil. Her new realm was dark, depressing, with an evil force emanating from it’s very walls...perfect. After the tour, another portal appeared, one that went back to Earth. Before stepping through, Beryl left the Black Daughter with this...

--- Black Daughter, in the glorious days of the Negaverse, in the time of the Moon Kingdom, you served as a kind of spy. You would infiltrate the enemy’s defenses by posing as one of them, and discover their plans, their strengths, their weaknesses. Now that we need energy to release the NegaForce, you are assigned to spy on those pathetic humans, and discover ways to harness energy. You will be my right-hand man. Understand?

Yes, my Queen, I will obey this command.

--- Good. Because if you fail, you will be no more to us.

I understand. And she stepped through the portal, born anew...

She made it to her house, and the journey she had made left her tired. Onyx soon fell asleep, filled with evil thoughts...

The next day...

Onyx returned to school, ready and waiting for a plan to come, a way to harness energy. As usual, Serena and Molly were gabbing, loud enough for the entire class to hear --

"Hey Serena, guess what!"

"What’s up Molly?"

"Well, you know my mom’s jewelry store downtown? She’s having a huge sale today. Everyone’s going. We’re all going nuts over her rings and bracelets!"

"I’ll be there!" Hearing this, Onyx got an idea, and went to the bathroom so that she wouldn’t attract attention. Putting on the onyx necklace, she contacted Queen Beryl...

--- Yes, what is it?

Well, I’ve just found out that teenagers go nuts for jewelry, and one store in particular’s going to be packed today.

--- Yes...

So I figure that we can send a monster that will suck the energy out of all of those babbling girls.

--- Yes, this may work. I will give this to one of my generals, Jedite. Jedite!

=== Yes, my Queen?

--- Proceed with her plan...

And after school, as predicted, everyone headed over for the jewelry store. All of those people were going crazy over the gems, and the sale priced made them even more popular. Onyx hid outside, awaiting the humans fate. Sure enough, a NegaMonster came in, and proceeded to drain the humans’ of their energy.

Perfect. Now, we will be able to succeed! The Queen will be pleased. However, this would not be a piece of cake...

for in an instant, someone appeared from the shadows. "Drop it right there!" she said. "You heard me!"

The monster looked up. "Who are you?"

The girl looked unsteady. "I am..." she then firmed up, "I am Sailor Moon, the champion of justice. In the name of the moon, I will right wrongs and triumph over evil - and that means you!"

Sailor Moon! Who is that? The name sounds so familiar...oh well. If she is on the side of good, she can’t be too important to me. But she better not interfere!

"Oh, yeah?" the monster sneered. "Well, take this!" and all of the girls whose energy was drained stood up like zombies, then started to attack. Sailor Moon dodged them, but however hard she tried, they backed her into a corner.

"Waahh! I don’t want to do this anymore! Luna, help!" she screamed, yelling at a cat who had accompanied her. Good, this battle is done. But, out of nowhere, a razor-sharp red rose was flung, striking the monster and breaking her spell on the girls.

The man who had thrown it, dashing in a tuxedo and cape, spoke. "Sailor Moon, I am Tuxedo Mask. I will always fight at your side. Do not be afraid of this monster!" and he left.

Sailor Moon went ga-ga over this mysterious man. Having regained her confidence, she lifted off her tiara, and in stunning fashion, she shouted, "Moon Tiara...MAGIC!!" The monster was struck with the glowing disc, and was subsequently destroyed. The warrior looked awestruck at her own actions, then quickly ran out before the girls could wake up.

Onyx then noticed a black portal...Queen Beryl was summoning her to return to the Negaverse. Transforming herself into the Black Daughter, she thought, She gonna kill me! --- Not yet.

Queen Beryl! I didn’t know --

--- I didn’t know either. Now we have a Sailor Moon to contend with. I am counting on you to help rid us of this threat.

I will do my best, Queen Beryl.

--- Good, because if you don’t...

Yes, my Queen! She left the Negaverse, scared yet determined...

She returned to her home. I must think of a way. I must..I must... and she would most certainly try...
