The Sailor Scouts (in the dub, and senshi/soldiers in the Japanese version), are the reincarnated warriors from the Moon Kingdom. Upon their reawakening, their first mission is to find the long-lost Moon Princess and the Silver Imperium Crystal. However, the Negaverse stands in their way, as the new enemy tries to steal the energy out of the world, starting in the Scouts' home, Tokyo.

Each Scout has different powers and represents a different element. Mercury is the soldier of water and intellegence, Mars is the soldier of fire and war, Jupiter is the soldier of thunder & lightning and protection, and Venus is the soldier of love and beauty. Sailor Moon has a somewhat different role. As a reincarnation of the Moon Princess, she is destined to become Queen in the future, as well as to control the Silver Crystal. She calls herself the soldier of love and justice, but her attacks generally have to do with healing - she would never kill ANYTHING that couldn't be saved.

This gets a little more complicated when Onyx...Sailor Nemesis...enters the picture. Nemesis is not actually a reincarnation of a warrior, but a vigilante fighter of her own creation. I suppose she's not really a Scout, then, more like a fake-soldier.
