"No man is an island. No one is really alone..."

Episode I : Origins of a Mystery

In the Milky Way cluster, a lone planet stands out as having life: Planet Earth. However, a thousand years ago, all planets harbored some kind of life, each distinct yet humanlike. And adjacent to the planet Earth, that long time ago, a kingdom was born, a kingdom so mighty, beautiful, and powerful that it and all the planets were dubbed the Moon Kingdom, first brought about on Earth’s moon. The glorious Queen Serenity, with her magical Silver Crystal, her daughter, Princess Serena, and the four Sailor Warriors, protectors of the royal heir, all called this mystifying place home.

While most had parents, family, a place to call their own, one little girl had none. The girl remembered nothing of her first few weeks, but acknowledged the year after that. Her parents cherished her, loved her, and she was happy. That is, until these loving parents that she had adored had perished during a routine trip to the neighboring planet, Earth. Three years old, this new orphan began to possess a tremendous power, a power which emanated from her body, but a power that had not yet been truly harnessed by the child. She became a nomad of sorts, wandering, going from home to home, always alone.

Away from the splendor of the Moon Kingdom, this silver millennium, away from the Earth, lay a dark corner of the galaxy. Here, where jealousy was fitting and power was all that mattered, a dark veil of deceit and treachery seemed to encircle the land there. The people there were evil, conniving, ready to take advantage of anyone who was weak, forgiving. In a word: The Negaverse, overseen by Queen Metallia, known as the NegaForce; ruled by Queen Beryl, an evil creature filled with hatred. And in this world, this Negaverse, a plan was conceived by Beryl: to take over the equally powerful Moon Kingdom.

Queen Serenity had been preparing for a Negaverse attack for some time. As the dark troops of Beryl appeared, and the Princess said good-bye to her longing fiancee from Earth, Prince Darien, the orphan child ceased her wandering momentarily and looked up towards the sky. Seeing the fleet, she knew whose troops they were, and she got upset -- and black fire enclosed around her, sealing her from any attack. She had now idea of how she was doing this, and its mere presence weakened her. The Negaverse generals felt this sudden outburst of power and arrived at the girl’s side. Having used up her strength, the forcefield faded, and she fainted as dark forces surrounded her...

The next thing she knew, she was alone, in a barren corner of the moon, with a tall, wicked woman, in a tight purplish black gown with flaming red hair. The woman looked down on the poor girl and said, "Well, I see that someone has been hiding her power from the great Queen of the Negaverse, hasn’t she?"

The orphan stared. "Queen of the... you mean, you’re that Beryl that everyone’s always talking about?"

Beryl grinned an evil grin. "Yes, child. Your power is extraordinary. We..we could help each other."

"Help each other? But I thought you were the enemy!"

"The enemy? Ha!" laughed the Queen. "Why, how can you believe those fools on the moon, those who left you alone like this?"

"Well, I guess..."

"You guess nothing! Come, we have much to talk about," said Beryl. She handed her a black choker with a oddly-shaped onyx in the middle. "A token of my appreciation." She took the girl’s hand, walking with her into the side of darkness. Under her breath, she added with a sinister glare, "Appreciation indeed..."

The war between the Negaverse and the Moon Kingdom lasted for many, many years. This allowed the Queen to teach the orphan to become an evil force, an unstoppable power, the Black Daughter. The Black Daughter was taught how to control her power by channeling it through her given onyx (the power in fact turned out to be the control over black holes and negative energy). She was instructed to become a great scout, one who could read into enemies’ plans - basically a spy. This was her prowess, and she was evil, and like the dark veil has passed over Beryl and others of the Negaverse, so it had the orphan.

However, as the years passed, the Queen’s forces diminished, finally to the point where she herself had to fight the war. The Black Daughter stood at a battlestation, ready and willing to fight in Beryl’s place. Meanwhile, the Sailor Warriors, the princess’s protectors, fought with all their might, collecting all their power into one immense force. However strong it was, unfortunately, it was no match for Beryl’s Negaenergy. The warriors soon perished, as did Princess Serena.

Upon seeing this, Queen Serenity went into a rage. She stood firm, held up her powerful crystal while it drew in tremendous power, and shouted, "Moon Cosmic Power!". The spirits of the warriors, the Princess, her guardians, the Prince Darien, and the Black Daughter, the children of the moon, were all thrust down to Earth, leaving the Queen alone to at last rest in peace.

In the twentieth century, on earth...

A thirteen year old girl woke up in a hospital, cold and alone. Looking at herself in a mirror across the room, she saw a girl with jet black hair, bobbed, with blood red streaks running through, with dark red eyes that bordered on black, eyes that looked almost soulless. A man in a crisp white uniform appeared, and the girl said, in a daze, "Who..who are you? Where am I? What’s going on here?"

The man smiled out of pity. "My girl, I am your doctor. You are in a hospital in Tokyo. As for what’s going on, you were just in a boating accident on the coast with your parents. I’m afraid that only you have survived." He was very remourseful. However, she could not share in the feeling...

"Oh," she said, startled. "It’s funny, I don’t remember a thing, or feel bad. I hope that’s not a bad thing...I mean, I don’t even remember my parents. I...what’s my name? I can’t even remember that."

"Well," said the doctor, "I wasn’t told, but I found this necklace with an onyx. You were wearing it during the...accident. It seemed to be an heirloom of some sorts, so I guess you could call yourself that..."

The girl thought. "Onyx. I...I guess that’s okay..." That name sounds familiar to me...

The doctor left, saying, "I’m so sorry..."

A few days later, the newly named Onyx was allowed to leave the hospital. She was alone, unprotected... yet she welcomed the loneliness in a way, for it seemed familiar to her.

As she walked towards and through downtown Tokyo, through the crowds of people, she noticed a few faces that, for some odd reason, looked familiar. She made mental observations, about appearance and character:

A teenager with long blonde hair and a red hairbow, seeming self-secure and strong,

A very tall teen with brown hair wrapped in a ponytail, rose earrings, confident, physically strong, a fighter,

A teen with long, shimmery black hair who seemed to work at a temple, much too confident, large ego, big heart. appeared to have some sort of spiritual power (she could feel it),

A teen with blue hair bobbed under her head, not confident in her abilities, extremely smart, few friends (it seemed, as she was walking alone, depressed), patient and precautious,

and a teen with blonde hair wrapped in two pigtails, like meatballs, quirky, flaky, but strong in spirit, likable...

this last one seemed the most familiar. She also sensed an inner force, a power inside each one of them, like they had power over the elements, and an indescribable force coming from that last girl. Onyx thought, Am I crazy? No one had control over fire, water, thunder, love...and whatever I felt from that last girl. And how can I feel for these things, anyway? And as these five girls would realize and regain their awesome powers in the near future, Onyx would rediscover some powers of her own...
