At first, Onyx really DOES seem like a normal...if troubled...teenaged. Sure, her red streaks and her black clothing may ward off some, but for those who get to know her, like Serena did, she's really a nice person. Of course, her history does get in the way.

Onyx is essentially an idealist in the worst sense. Because she was reborn on earth with no memory whatsoever of her past life, she is basically a clean slate. She doesn't know the evils or the good of the world yet, and has her own sense of justice. Onyx believes in peace, in learning, and perhaps in utopia...like her former home, the Moon Kingdom. So it's no surprise when upon hearing of war, and seeing students who don't WANT to learn, she goes into a rage.

It is also of no surprise that she allowed herself to be taken over again by Beryl. While she is a child of Serenity, she was also raised, essentially, by Beryl. And once her memories began to come back to her, her values of justice set in. If the people aren't good, then what's left for me here anyway? I suppose that she, in her mind, believed at the time that instilling HER values into everyones' minds was better than not. And later, she believed that killing those people would be better than having people withOUT her values in store.

Because she is a clean slate, a child in the broadest terms, Onyx feels very betrayed when Beryl cuts her off. Since she has no REAL mother up to that point, perhaps Beryl was considered to be one to the girl...and when her mother left her, she felt that there simply WAS no justice. And if there is no justice, no one deserves to live. She had to prove her power to the world, in her mind, to preserve that last grasp of 'justice' - a vigilante soldier, called Sailor Nemesis.

Of course, by the end, she realizes that there IS a justice in the world, though not necessarily on her terms. However, she accepts this, partially because she has seen more of the world, partially because she saw what havok power can reek and doesn't want it anymore, and partially because she has finally put together the missing pieces of her past. Onyx can finally be free.
