welcome to kami.uta

This is nemesis' mp3 rotation/shrine. Here you will find a variety of songs of my choosing, every month or so. Sometimes the songs are focused on one group, or one topic, or are dedicated to some friends. Either way I'm sure you'll enjoy!

This rotation (and perhaps a subsequent rotation or two) features that most addicting of arcade games, Dance Dance Revolution. Any requests for another DDR rotation? Send away!

What is DDR?

DDR, or Benami's "Dance Dance Revolution", is a simple game in concept. Each person stands on a "dance pad", a pad on the ground with 4 arrows (up, down, L and R) marked off in squares, with sensors underneath. The player picks a song. As it plays, arrows appear on the screen, in the form of a rhythm from the song. When an arrow hits the top of the screen, the player steps on the appropriate arrow on the dance pad. Sounds simple, doesn't it.

DDR songs come in 3 flavors, Light, Standard, and Heavy/Maniac. Difficulty is measured in number of feet (1 being easiest, 9 being hardest), and rhythms can get mericlessly fast and complicated. But it's always a fun time! There have been 8 "Mixes" released, along with domestic and console-only versions. You can play on controller also.

The following are my 15 favorite songs from various mixes of DDR, though most are by TaQ, RevenG, and DJTaka. Enjoy!

3rd Mix

- End of the Century + no.9 -.
A rap and song over classical music, none do better than DDR. This is a classic, about partying at the end of the last century. Old-DDR-style synth.

4th Mix

- .59 + dj Taka -.
Maybe my favorite song, a dance instrumental with strings, drums, and awesome resonance. Good and minor.

- era (nostralmix) + TaQ -.
Probably my favorite to dance to. This song really builds up and has a nice (HARD) part in the middle where the tempo slows down. Minor and loving it!

- dream a dream + Captain Jack -.
The infamous Captain Jack revamps "Hall of the Mountain King"! Cool singing and just altogether an awesome remix.

5th Mix

- The Cube + DJ Suwami -.
Something in major! A bright song with the coolest instrumentation EVER. No vocals and lots of fun to dance to. Really catchy melody line!

- Abyss + dj Taka -.
More dark goodness from Taka! A scifi, etheral sound with the trademark lessening of instrumentation in the middle (like .59). Repetitive in a good way.

- Moonlight Shadow + Missing Heart -.
A sad, beautiful techno song? You'd better believe it. She has a wonderful voice, and is singing about her lover who gets killed. Interesting...incredibly melody too.

- Look To The Sky + system S.F. feat. ANNA -.
The namesake of this layout. A really beautiful synth=sounding thing with great vocals by Anna, about a girl who waits for the guy she loves. Really nice.

- Healing Vision (angelic mix) + 2MB -.
A really hard dance, and a really awesome song. Just pounding and building, even uses a heartbeat/drumbeat for effect. Just doesn't let you go. :) (Remix of "Healing Vision".)

6th Mix (ManiaX)

- true...(trance sunrise mix) + Koraka Riyu -.
A remix of a more rock/pop based song, this literally brings tears to my eyes when the synth choir comes in at the end. Just such a beautiful song, and a great dance as well.

- exotic ethnic + RevenG -.
One of DDR's hardest, coolest DJs! A mideastern, pulse-pounding song. Sitar-ful and everything! This just doesn't STOP, period, when you're dancing. So cool.

7th Mix (MAX2)

- kakumei + dj Taka feat. Naoki -.
My favorite song EVER, and I mean that. A fully orchestrated, dramatic piece with an underlaying drumbeat. Piano and strings and the works! Just...WOW!

- Logical Dash + dj Taka -.
This is just plain fun. "Bass please!" I can't get enough of this song. Full of awesome synth and an addictive beat.

8th Mix (Extreme)

- SAKURA + RevenG -.
Wow. This is just incredibly cool. Old-style Japanese shamisen (!!!) with changing tempo techno beats? How can it get better than this?

- V (for Extreme) + dj Taka -.
Strings and piano and techno again! But completely different than Taka's other stuff! Really! God, I love this guy. Really fast complimenting strings to the piano. So nice.
